why?
I’ve walked through a lot of stables. The polished ones where everything looks the part yet the horses aren’t quite allowed to be horses. And the rougher ones, makeshift but somehow more attuned to the animal’s true nature. In both, I saw the same pattern: we look for solutions for our stables in the world most known to us, mostly our own homes. And that’s why most stables keep looking the way they do. Very practical. Sometimes well decorated. But rarely designed in a truly holistic way.
Why not have it all?
In today’s world, we have the knowledge, the materials, and the understanding to do better. So why isn’t it more normal to design spaces that meet horses where they are? Environments that give them and us the emotional and intellectual room to become curious again?
Because when a horse feels safe enough to be curious, something remarkable happens. That’s when real connection becomes possible. The kind of connection we look for when we choose to share our lives with these special animals.
Our story
Thoughtfull spaces where horses can thrive
The French client, let’s call him J.P., frowned, searching for language to describe the space he owned. “Biscornu”, he said finally. Crooked, unusual, a building with curved and diagonal walls, hardly any straight corners to be found.
J.P. tried everything. Different layouts, approaches. None of them quite worked. The space resisted being, what he wanted it to become. And so he came to us, with a history of attempts, frustrations, and a clear wish: hear me out, make it work, without losing what makes it unique.
This moment describes the journey of most of our clients and ‘biscornu’ often reoccurs in our projects. The name resonated and turned out to be a perfect fit, as we ourselves are also a bit ‘biscornu’.
My name is Wiktoria Kolouszek, I founded Studio Biscornue in 2021 for different reasons. One of them is a deeply rooted belief that everyone has a mission and is here to live it.
My mission is to design interiors for horses. I am also curious to find out what drives my clients and implement this knowledge in the designs I make for them. It moves me every time we develop an environment that reflects their essence.
Other reasons are my love for nature, hunger for knowledge and solving ‘puzzles’. I see every project as ‘puzzling for experts’ as it is always a challenge to find the right design, the right solutions, materials and people to do the execution for every specific case.
My vision is to create places where people and horses are treated with respect, met with curiosity, and feel safe enough to communicate and become who they truly are.
Studio Biscornue was born from more than a decade of designing and building commercial spaces like showrooms, offices of international companies, specialty stores, practices and private spaces, completed by more than twenty-five years of living alongside horses. Every project, every lesson, every insight has led us to improve our services, and it continues to lead us forward.
We believe true refinement comes from staying curious, being able to read between the lines and surpass expectations.

With a background as a versatile animator at a Center for Expression and Creativity and a degree in interior design, she finds beauty in the circular, the reclaimed, and the unexpected. Inspired by the Bauhaus clear lines and the Memphis playfulness, she’s always searching for the alternative solution, the one nobody saw coming.
